Getting to Lake Como

Airports

Fly into Milano Malpensa (MXP) or Milano Linate

Both are approximately 1-1.5 hours from Lake Como.

From Airport to Lake Como:

We recommend traveling by train (approximately 1.5 hours) and booking tickets via Trainline. The most convenient station to arrive at is Varenna–Esino.

If arriving by car, the journey is approximately one hour, depending on traffic.

Arrival Times

Arrive a few days early (recommended) to fully enjoy the experience and…

  • Adjust to the time zone & settle in.

  • Account for potential flight delays or cancellations.

  • Explore the beautiful area!

Where To Stay

We recommend staying in Tramezzo or Menaggio, as it offers the easiest access to wedding-day boat transportation departing from the Tremezzo dock.

Accommodations

While we do not have a hotel block, we recommend staying in a nearby Airbnb or VRBO villa, as they often offer closer proximity and more favorable lakeside rates. If you’d prefer a hotel, below are our recommendations.

Other Popular Areas To Stay:
Bellagio, Como Town, Varenna, & Menaggio

Please Note: If you stay outside Tremezzo, you may need to arrange private boat or taxi transportation on the wedding day.

Getting Around Lake Como

We kindly recommend relying on trains, ferries, taxis, and water taxis throughout your stay. With limited parking, restricted driving zones, and narrow lakeside roads, these options offer a far more seamless and enjoyable way to experience Lake Como. With any form of transportation, please allow extra time! Lake Como is stunning but can be crowded, especially during peak season.

Be sure to build buffer time into all travel plans.

Getting Around By Car

If you plan on renting a car, it’s approx. 1-hour from Milano Malpensa (MXP) or Milano Linate Airports.

Important Car Rental Info:

  • Be sure to obtain an International Driving Permit from AAA before you leave the US.

  • Be aware of restricted driving zones (ZTL/Zona Traffico Limitato) — they're poorly marked but strictly enforced.

  • Violations result in mailed fines with late fees; unpaid fines can cause issues re-entering Italy.

We recommend train travel as parking at Lake Como is very limited.

What To Pack

September Weather

September in Lake Como brings warm, golden late-summer days.

Temperatures are typically around 68–76°F (20–24°C), and cooler evenings near 59–61°F (15–16°C).

Expect mostly sunny skies, with a light clothing layer recommended for evenings by the water.

Shoe Suggestions

The wedding venue includes cobblestones, grass, and boat access.

We recommend block heels or wedges, and suggest bringing comfortable flats for later in the evening.

Avoid delicate or brand-new shoes that might get scuffed.

A valid passport is required for international travel.

We will also collect your passport name via the RSVP for transportation coordination.
